About:
Idlewild Tattoo Parlour is located in Santa Cruz County of California. The Scotts Valley location was established in January of 2020 and founded by the owner Justin Flores.
Justin has been professionally tattooing since 2011. He started his career in Sand City of Monterey County, California. Before tattooing, he has been illustrating all throughout life as a main hobby. Growing up, his influences included Marvel and DC comic book art, and Japanese anime and manga art of all types. Justin enjoyed creating his own characters/superheroes while finding a balance of blending these two comic styles. Over the years, that lead to an interest in figure drawing to improve his comic inspired art.
Justin is currently the only tattooer at Idlewild Tattoo Parlour. At the start of his tattoo career, Justin specialized in the study of traditional American and Japanese tattoo art. He aspired to find a perfect balance between these tattoo styles as he would with the two contrasting comic styles growing up. In the first half of Justin’s tattoo career, the majority of his portfolio displayed his specialty of color. Adapting to the times where black and grey tattoos have been gaining more and more popularity, he found his niche in black and grey tattooing. Justin uses a variety of methods to display texture to allow complimentary components to each tattoo to stand out in black and grey in the way that certain colors would compliment another. Justin applies these methods while integrating his initial interests in traditional American, Japanese tattoo art and often combines a little dash of comic book art. Along with adapting to the times, Justin evolves his tattoo style over time to the current demand. Floral/botanical, animals and other nature inspired tattoos have always been a classic tattoo theme. At one point in time Justin was seeking a career in health science. Although he opted out of that career path, he stumbled upon a special interest in scientific illustration. His work displays this interest while creating his own interpretation and translating it in the form of tattoos.
Although Justin is open to client’s specific requests and willing to take on challenges, his first priority when accepting a tattoo project is that the design will display clarity and flow. The only way that he can guarantee his best work is if clients are willing to be open as well, in regards to his personal interpretation of their idea.
Conducting business in the past year has greatly contrasted the consistent decade before it. To keep family, friends, and clients safe, please be respectful to Idlewild Tattoo Parlour’s precautionary measures. These precautionary measures have created significant delays to the tattooing, scheduling and inquiring process. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Thank you all for supporting our local small businesses!
